Special Student Exhibit on Display Through June!

Twenty-five art students from Skiatook High School will participate in a special exhibit of two- and three-dimensional art during the month of June at Prairie's Edge. Each of these students created these same pieces for a juried competition that featured the work of hundreds of area art students at this year's Mayfest in Tulsa. Honorable Mention awards were presented to Cole Lamson and Tabitha McIntyre, both recent graduates. A special opening event will coincide with the June 6th Artwalk from 5-7 pm. Visitors to the gallery will enjoy a variety of themes, mediums, and personal expression by these young local talents.

These students are under the tutelage of art instructor, Karen St. Clair, an excellent artist and gallery member who offers a collection of art pieces for sale at the gallery. Karen also offers artistic services that include people and pet portraits, wall murals, family crests, and special order giclee prints.

Stop in soon to see the work of these local talents!

Prairie Wind Gallery Collective - Strength in Numbers

      Five rural community art galleries in NE Oklahoma have recently formed the Prairie Wind Gallery Collective. The group’s purpose is to promote gallery artists, inform the public of area art events, and expose the public to the art and art-related services in rural NE Oklahoma communities.The group kicked off the holidayseason with their first event called ‘Deck the Walls Gallery Tour’ in December.

The Collective plans to expand to include more galleries, as well as other art-related businesses such as frame shops, printers, and art suppliers. Additionally, the collective would like to liaison with area wineries, restaurants and businesses who are interested in promoting the arts in Oklahoma. Each of the galleries will host various events and offer their own special promotions throughout the year in addition to Collective events that are being planned. Visit their websites, call, or stop by for details.

Excellent Reasons to Collect Fine Art

Collectors support the vitality of an arts community. When you purchase a painting by a local artist, you validate his/her creative vision. Artists stay where they experience recognition. It's generally understood that a community thrives when people support local businesses and athletic events. Supporting the arts is every bit as beneficial to an area's quality of life.
Artists have enlivened our community by participating in our local downtown gallery & area art shows. Many offer classes that encourage adults and children to become more creative & to see the world in a different way. They have the ability to further beautify our homes and the city through murals, commissioned portraits, art benches and public sculptures, helping to give a sense of identity to ourselves & our community.
One collector of art sums up what I've tried to convey by saying that art satisfies a hunger for experiencing the best that humans have to offer. Disposable products, such as electronic gadgets that are built to become obsolete, inundate our culture. By contrast, good art has an enduring quality. People need to own some things that are meant to last. In collecting art, you have to trust your gut reaction, and when you see something you really love, you should buy it! Thank you for supporting our area artists!

Rental & Lease-Purchase Programs

1.  Art Rental Program  This is especially designed for corporate or business accounts or for collectors who want to 'try it before we buy it' for just a small monthly fee.

2.  Art Lease-Purchase Option   This is primarily for anyone wishing to purchase artwork via monthly payments while enjoying the artwork in their home or work space at the same time, or for anyone who wants to acquire larger values of artwork in a short period of time. A large portion of the lease payments apply to the purchase of the artwork. Similar to purchasing on credit, but with no obligation to buy.

3.  Gallery Rental Program    The gallery is also available to rent for special events, meetings, catered luncheons, & private parties!

Come by or call to learn more about these rental or purchase plans. You can be taking home fine art before you know it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The gallery is the vision of Patty Plummer of Skiatook, OK. Patty creates archival quality nature and travel images for home and office spaces, which can be viewed at www.journeysphotography.com.
The gallery's cozy surroundings invite you to relax in the sitting area with a cup of coffee or glass of wine while browsing through books on exciting places to travel, interesting artists, various art mediums, and fun artistic hobbies. Bring your laptop and enjoy the free wireless internet connection.
The gallery regularly features guest artists as well as Skiatook high school art & photography students who are recommended by their art/photography teachers and pass a review of the gallery. Many of these emerging artists haved displayed great talent at the Arts Rage fine art show held in Skiatook each October, and it is hoped that they will be encouraged to continue with their passion for art as they are supported through the gallery.
Also included in the gallery are items such as cards, ornaments, giclee prints, and small pieces of artwork. A variety of art/fine craft class offerings for youth and adults are offered year round.
Don't be shy! Come on in and experience what our area artists have created especially for you! You'll always find something special at the Prairie's Edge!
